SUMMARY:SMU | Women & Economic Freedom: What Does The Research Say?
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\n  \nThursday\, March 21\, 2024\, 6:00 pm Reception\, 7:00 pm Panel Discussion\nOren Auditorium\, Hughes-Trigg Student Center\, SMU Campus (Campus map)\,\nParking information can be found below.\n  \n  \nOver the past few decades\, hundreds of studies have found that economic freedom is associated with a variety of beneficial outcomes including faster economic growth\, higher incomes\, a cleaner environment\, and a variety of other things. Yet in many countries\, men and women lack access to the same economic opportunities. \nIn order to understand why this matters\, the Bridwell Institute commissioned fifteen papers to study the relationship between women and economic freedom. This panel discussion highlights some of that research and features two of our paper authors: Rosie Fike (Texas Christian University)\, and Anne Rathbone Bradley (The Fund for American Studies). \n\n  \nREGISTER HERE\nFree to attend \nGeneral Parking Information can be found here. Parking is $10.00 on-site.

SUMMARY:EACC NY | Quarterly EU Economic Update for 2024 Converging on a Soft Landing
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for an in-depth analysis of the European economy \nand the newly released Autumn 2023 Economic Forecast.\n\n\n  \n\n\n\n\n\nThe US economy has grown faster than the European Union’s for the past five quarters. There are a variety of reasons for the discrepancy in performance between the EU and the US\, including the trade and resulting energy price shock in Europe prompted by Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine; fiscal policy\, and the lingering effects of pandemic era stimulus programs; as well labor market dynamics. The latest forecast shows that the third quarter may have marked the peak of this growth divergence\, as US economic growth accelerated while GDP in Europe held steady. Yet US growth is projected to slow over the course of next year\, while in the EU growth is set to pick up.\nOur panel will discuss the recent economic data and public policy developments through mid-November and weigh the prospects for European and global growth\, interest rates\, inflation\, budget deficits\, the state of transatlantic and global sovereign debt developments\, and energy prices in the context of increasing geo-political risks. \n  \nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, DELEGATION of the EU to the U.S.\n• Maddalena Perretti\, Economist – Advisor\, ECB REPRESENTATION to the U.S.\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator] \nRegister now to secure your spot!
