SUMMARY:EACC NY: Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update - How Much Closer Will Europe Come Together to Stay Warm This Winter?
DESCRIPTION:  \n\nThe Russian invasion of Ukraine\, as the world was just beginning to emerge from COVID\, has been a huge shock to the global economy and no region of the world has borne the brunt of this shock as much as Europe. The war has led millions of refugees to seek safety in the EU\, caused household food and energy bills to soar\, and threatened the competitiveness of entire industrial sectors as the costs of basic inputs have mounted. \nYet the shock of the attack on Ukraine has reinforced the lessons learned from the pandemic namely that coordinated\, collective action is the only effective response\, and Europe is stronger & more effective when it acts in unison. The war has thus been a galvanizing force that is bringing the EU closer together. \nIt is now clear that the green energy transition is not simply a matter of combating climate change\, but that making Europe independent from Russian fossil fuel imports is a strategic necessity. The EU and its Member States are already executing a host of policy measures\, some initiated during the Covid 19 Pandemic\, that will mobilize hundreds of billions of euros in new energy investments\, contain energy prices and bring inflation back under control\, and support freedom and democracy in Ukraine. \n  \nWith winter fast approaching\, these efforts have already begun to bear fruit.\n• Natural gas reserves are over 90% full\, and Russian imports have fallen from 40% last year to under 10%.\n• Construction of new energy infrastructure is beginning\, households and businesses are receiving support to ease the pain of high energy bills.\n• The Ukrainian people are getting aid that will allow them to continue their stand against Russian aggression. \nBut these early successes have not resolved all of the challenges that lie ahead. The economic outlook is complex: the EU faces the prospect of a recession in 2023\, many member states may face fiscal constraints as they seek to provide for needed investments and social spending\, and risks are\, to say the least\, tilted to the downside. \n  \nIn this fluid and challenging geo-political environment\, be sure to join us for a discussion of the EU Commission’s latest economic forecast and learn more about:\n• How the EU is simultaneously attempting to cushion Europe from the economic shocks it is facing\, including how Member States are implementing significant structural reforms to counteract these economic challenges.\n• How Europe is investing in new and innovative renewable energy technologies that could put European firms at the leading edge of green innovations.\n• The west’s resolve and resilience as it combats authoritarian threats to liberal democracy and the rule of law. \n\n \n\nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES\n• Debora Revoltella\, Director – Economics Department\, EUROPEAN INVESTMENT BANK\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator]\n \n  \nTIME:\n12:00 – 1:00 PM CT \nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCTX Members: Free\nEACCTX non-Members: Free\n \n  \nREGISTER HERE\n\n  \nLocation: Online

SUMMARY:EACC NY: Webinar | New Scrutiny of Transatlantic M&A Deals: How Recent Regulations Effect pre-M&A Procedures & Requirements
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nEACC NY: Webinar | New Scrutiny of Transatlantic M&A Deals: How Recent Regulations Effect pre-M&A Procedures & Requirements\n \n  \n\nThe COVID-19 pandemic has severely impacted the global economy and the financial markets\, exacerbating systemic risk management issues companies are facing. Companies are presented with a new regulatory environment and grapple with the fact that the pandemic has amplified the scrutiny of social and governance-related risks\, which may have enormous consequences when it comes to the acquisition of foreign-based companies and oversight of foreign subsidiaries. \nIn addition to that 2022 marks the 10th anniversary of the unanimous endorsement of the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights by the United Nations Human Rights Council which made significant progress connecting business with the enforcement of human rights. \nIn this context\, case law has been developed in the field of human rights corporate accountability; and a broad stakeholder community\, including consumers and investors\, have driven expectations by putting pressure on companies to comply with regulations and to publicly report on their commitment and achievements. \nThese developments lead to a new level of due diligence before merging with or acquiring a company. Our panel will discuss the new compliance landscape and its effect on M&A deals with a special focus on new transatlantic developments. \n\nOur experts will discuss:\n• Updates in U.S. Anti-Corruption Law (FCPA) and its EU equivalent\n• Possible sanctions for FCPA violations\n• What you need to know about OFAC – who must comply and possible penalties\, incl. typical transactions\, exceptions and common pitfalls\n• Overview of the U.S. Forced Labor Statute & its EU equivalent; including enforcement actions and collaboration between transatlantic task forces \nYou will also learn:\n• How to build effective compliance frameworks and commitments to keep track of suppliers/intermediaries and agents\n• Responsibility of the board of directors to develop systems for actionable global governance\, identify and manage risks\n• Successor liability and corruption risks associated with M&A transactions\n• Recent rulings\, enforcement actions and Practice Tip Takeaways \nSPEAKERS:\n• Stephanie Anderson\, Partner and Managing Director\,  ALIXPARTNERS\n• Bernard Cazeneuve\, Partner\, AUGUST DEBOUZY (Former Prime Minister of France)\n• Jordi de Llano\, Partner\, TROUTMAN PEPPER\n• James Rosener\, Managing Partner\, TROUTMAN PEPPER\, President of EACCNY [Moderator]\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCNY Members: Free\nEACCNY non-Members: Free \n\nLocation:\nOnline\n\nTIME:\n10:00 AM – 11:00 AM CT\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCTX Members: Free\nEACCTX non-Members: Free\n\n  \nREGISTER HERE\n  \n\n

SUMMARY:BABC Texas: In-Person / Networking | THE QUEST FOR PERFECT DATA IS A FOOL’S ERRAND
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \nRefreshments and light bites provided \n\nEvent Brief: \nOrganizations are not getting more efficient despite gathering more and more data. \nBABC Texas members Garner and BJSS believe there are two core reasons why efficiency is not improving. \n1. The misguided myth that only perfect data will reveal the truth. Businesses are searching under couch cushions for every byte of data\, polishing red herrings and expecting to catch white whales. \n2. The mischaracterization of organizations as machines. In reality\, every business unit operates as a human community. \nJoin Mark Childerson\, Product Manager\, Garner and Mitch Hollander\, Data Engineer\, BJSS as they provide a better understanding of how to operate a data-driven community — or at least how not to. \nRegister via the link below. \n\n\n\nREGISTER HERE\n  \n\n

SUMMARY:EACC FLORIDA: Webinar | Business in Flux – Perspectives from a Transatlantic Panel of C-Suite Women
DESCRIPTION:  \n \nAt the end of 2022\, the IMF’s annual economic outlook for 2023 projected weak growth across the world in the face of elevated inflation\, higher interest rates\, reduced investment\, disruptions caused by Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and the lingering impact of COVID especially in China. The sharp downturn in growth was expected to be widespread\, with World Bank forecasts in 2023 revised down for 95% of advanced economies and nearly 70% of emerging market and developing economies. Although the economic indicators at the start of 2023 seem to be more favorable than expected\, any new adverse development—such as higher-than-expected inflation\, abrupt rises in interest rates to contain it\, a resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic\, or escalating geopolitical tensions—could push the global economy into recession.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn this program\, a transatlantic panel of C-Suite women joined by Arancha González Laya\, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Spain and Dean of the School of International Affairs at Sciences Po in Paris\, will explore these and other challenges faced by global companies in this uncertain global geopolitical and economic environment. \nSPEAKERS \n\nCarol Cabezas\, President – Azamara Cruise Lines\nArancha Gonzalez-Laya\, Dean of the Paris School of International Affairs at Sciences Po (Paris)\nDaniella Silberstein\, Shareholder – Greenberg Traurig and Co-chair of Greenberg Traurig’s Miami Women’s Initiative [Moderator]\nAdditional speakers to be announced\n\nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION \n\nWhat are the economic perspectives for 2023 and is recession still a risk?\nHow will business investment respond to recent changes in asset prices and the commitment of monetary policymakers around the world to slower growth?\nWhat are the perspectives for the transatlantic relationship in relation to business and trade ?\nWhat will the return of industrial policy in the U.S. (with the Inflation Reduction Act) mean for transatlantic investment and trade?\nWhat will be the longer-term ramifications for global fragmentation of the sanctions imposed on Russia and on Chinese semiconductors?\nAre there new roles for China\, India and in particular Latin America in this new economic environment?\nHow are these trends playing out in places like Florida and Miami in their efforts to establish themselves as global business hubs?\n\n\n\n\n\nEvent schedule \n\n8.45 am – 9:45 am:   Program\n\nRegistration Fee \n\nEACC Member: Free\nEACC Non-Member: Free\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nREGISTER\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeaker Bios \nCarol Cabezas \nCarol Cabezas is the President of Azamara. \nShe is responsible for the full range of operations of the cruise line including Sales\, Marketing\, Revenue\, Finance\, Deployment and Shipboard Operations.  Carol’s dedication to the cruise industry with a career spanning over two decades stems from her passion for travel\, and cruise in particular. \nPrior to that\, Carol was Vice President of Investor Relations for Royal Caribbean Group\, managing relationships with the global investor and analyst community. SUMMARY:EACC NY: Webinar | Quarterly EU Economic Update - Sailing Through Calmer Seas?
DESCRIPTION:  \n \n  \nThe European Union has weathered the impact of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine much better than expected. The commodity price shock of 2022 is now a thing of the past\, as Europe has pivoted away from Russian imports of oil and natural gas with amazing speed. Not only has the EU avoided energy shortages\, but gas prices have now fallen below pre-war levels. This resilience has allowed the EU to shrug off fears of a recession and continue its economic expansion. \nGrowth in 2023 is likely to be stronger than expected just a few months ago. Historically strong labor markets\, improving consumer confidence\, and solid corporate profits are all working to keep the expansion on track\, even in the face of continuing headwinds from the war. Though inflation remains too high\, it is now coming down and should continue to ease in the months ahead. The EU is making massive investments in the green and digital transitions\, which will secure Europe’s energy independence\, support growth and innovation\, and promote a cleaner\, healthier environment. \nJoin us for an in-depth analysis of the European economy and the newly released Spring 2023 Economic Forecast. Our panel will discuss the recent economic data and public policy developments through mid-May and weigh the prospects for European and global growth against a range of potential risk factors.  \nSPEAKERS:\n• Ben Carliner\, Senior Economist\, EU DELEGATION to the UNITED STATES\n• Balazs Parkanyi\, Counsellor for Economic and Financial Affairs\, EU DELEGATION to the UNITED STATES\n• Maddalena Perretti\, Advisor\, ECB’s PERMANENT REPRESENTATION to the UNITED STATES\n• Yvonne Bendinger-Rothschild\, Executive Director\, EACCNY [Moderator] \n \nLOCATION: Online\n\nTIME:\n12:00 PM – 1:00 PM CT\nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCTX Members: Free\nEACCTX non-Members: Free\n\nREGISTER HERE\n\nThis event has been organized in partnership with the EU DELEGATION TO THE UNITED STATES

SUMMARY:EACC NY - Webinar | Self-writing Software: Who Coded the String First? - Copyright Concerns with Software Created by AI
DESCRIPTION:  \nWith all the hype around the opportunities and challenges presented by Artificial Intelligence\, more and more focus is being paid on where the content that AI regurgitates actually comes from. There have been a growing number of complaints about companies that are ‘’training” their AI systems using data that does not belong to them. The concerns were expressed by a broad range of professionals\, including writers\, artists\, composers\, etc. After researchers built a system to write computer programs\, picking up strings of code from an untold number of programs posted to the internet\, another group of professionals joined the protesters\, software writers.\nCourts are trying to establish how intellectual property laws should be applied in cases of self-writing software\, and several cases have already been filed. To protect themselves from these risks\, software companies that use generative AI need to ensure that they are in compliance with the law and take steps to mitigate potential risks\, such as ensuring they use training data free from unlicensed content or they pay for the licenses – a goal that is not easy to accomplish if your AI goes fishing in the vast data pools of the internet. \nOur panel will discuss the many open questions about self-writing software and copyrights. Join us and hear about what the challenges and possible solutions are to avoid breaching the intellectual property laws in Europe and the U.S. \nIssues to be discussed: \n• Awareness of Limitations\n> Need for human oversight – will it decrease or increase with ‘smarter’ AI?\n>Bad (or malicious) code – how to detect it and who will check? \n• Regulation/Ethics\n>Who can /should regulate? Governments and/or trade organizations?\n> Bias: Who ultimately controls the selection algorithm of what to pick and where to pick from? \n• Technology and Its Limitations\n> Certifying code\, who and how?\n> Quality tests\n> Dataset related questions \n• Intellectual Property-Related Issues\n> Do we need to rethink IP?\n> How to track offenders (whom to prosecute if code is ‘stolen’? \nSPEAKERS:\n• Jeffrey W. Gluck\, Partner\, PANITCH SCHWARZE\n• Louis-Pierre Gravelle\, Vice President – Practice Management Committee\, FICPI (International Federation of Intellectual Property Attorneys)\n• Victor Gonzalez Pacheco\, Adjunct Professor\, IE UNIVERSITY\n• Derek Slater\, Founder\, PROTEUS STRATEGIES\nModerator is to be announced soon.\n \nTIME:\n10:00 – 11:00 AM ET | 16:00h – 17:00h CET \nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACC Members: Free\nEACC non-Members: Free \n\nREGISTER HERE
