SUMMARY:Expanding Operations into New Territories: Has the Recipe for Success Changed in a Post-Covid World? - Webinar
DESCRIPTION:Expanding operations into new territories around the world has traditionally offered important commercial opportunities for both for multinational corporations and SMEs. Whereas the trend toward globalization was well underway\, the COVID-19 pandemic marked an abrupt halt\, leading to a global recession\, a severe disruption of global trade and a sharp decrease in foreign direct investments. \nSome countries are still managing the crisis. Others are slowly emerging from it with governments mostly focusing on supporting their domestic economies. Companies around the world however are looking at what commercial opportunities are available to them in other territories and considering how the sanitary crisis and its consequences is impacting plans to expand. \nLooking at Europe and the United States\, with a focus on financial transactions\, accounting\, taxation and human resources\, the panel will discuss the push towards more responsible governance\, how the tendency toward international alignment and cooperation between jurisdictions is being challenged by an increase in local\, sometimes idiosyncratic\, administrative and regulatory complexities and why these trends provide both challenges and opportunities for businesses considering expanding operations to other territories. \nTOPICS FOR DISCUSSION \nTrends toward more responsible Governance. When planning to expand\, companies need to consider the following: \n\nA shift away from traditional offshoring impacting the choice of new locations;\nIncreased protection of employees as businesses are encouraged to be responsible employers;\nAn increase in mandated use of third parties;\nCompliance requirements as part of market entry strategy with stricter penalties for non-compliance being implemented especially in more complex jurisdictions;\nPersonal consequences for non-compliance on directors.\n\nTrends in international vs. local regulatory and administrative complexity. Issues include:\n \n\nMeeting global obligations with the trend toward standardization via regulations such as CRS\, UBO and FATCA;\nManaging international reporting requirements vs. local ones such as the OECD’s Common Reporting Standard (CRS);\nNavigating the complexities of local/regional jurisdictions opening up to international business while simultaneously enacting rules potentially impacting investments such as the European Commission’s Proposal for Regulating Foreign Subsidies Control;\nUnderstanding the domination of local legislation in some business areas such as accounting and incorporations;\nManaging the international and local complexities of assembling a workforce.\n\nSPEAKERS \n\nJuan Botin\, Project Director – Grupo Santander (Madrid)\nJan Willem van Drimmelen\, Chief Commercial Officer & Head of North America – TMF Group (Amsterdam)\nEdoardo Gambaro\, Partner – Greenberg Traurig (Milano)\nTyler Lavin\, VP\, Development and Investment – North America at citizenM hotels (New York)\nMike Morroni\, Head of Global Client Directors and North America Head of Business Development – TMF Group (Miami) [Moderator]\n\nSPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES\n \nJuan Botín \nJuan´s whole career has been linked to the International sphere. SUMMARY:Is the End in Sight? Yes\, it is! 17 Years of the Airbus-Boeing Dispute
DESCRIPTION:In October 2004 the U.S. hauled Airbus in front of the World Trade Organization\, calling European loans to Airbus illegal subsidies. Since then\, there have been counter-complaints and negotiations and appeals. Meanwhile\, a global pandemic has walloped the aerospace industry\, and China is making a serious run at getting into the civilian airliner market. \nIn March 2021 the new U.S. Administration reached agreements with the UK and the EU to “pause” tariffs in the dispute for an initial period of four months to give negotiators time to see if a settlement can be reached. Three months into the pause\, what progress has been made (if any)? Is there a settlement to be had\, and if so\, what might it look like? And if not\, what would a return to tariffs mean for the aerospace industry specifically and for transatlantic (and global) trade in general? \nOur expert panelists – from both sides of the Atlantic — will review the state of play offer perspectives on the way forward.  Our attorneys will review the history of the dispute and summarize the specific complaints as well as update us on the status of the talks\, while our manufacturers will review how the issue has impacted their firms in the past as well as consider how a resolution (or non-resolution) might affect future operational and investment decisions. \nFree event for EACC members and non-members. \nREGISTER HERE \nFeatured Panelists: \n\nJan de Beer\nOffice Member-in-Charge | Lexington\, KY\nFrost Brown Todd LLC \n\nPhilippe Garnier\nCEO & General Manager\nSafran Landing Systems \n\nAndrew Tetley\nPartner\nReed Smith LLP

SUMMARY:The EU’s Industrial Strategy and how U.S. Investors can get Involved
DESCRIPTION:Europe is embarking on a transition towards climate neutrality and digital leadership. The European industrial strategy to be launched in the Spring of 2021 aims to ensure that European industry can lead the way as we enter this new age. The initiative is backed up by EU COVID Recovery Fund\, which will invest €750 billion in rebuilding the European economy.\nThe strategy consists of three drivers will transform our industry\, support our small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and keep Europe sustainable and competitive. \nThey are:\n●  Green transition\, supported by the European Green Deal\n●  Digital transition\, supported by the EU’s digital strategy\n●  Competitiveness on the global stage\, where Europe will leverage the influence of its single market to set global standards \nWith this unique initiative Europe is addressing the twin transition into a green and digital future\, the updated industrial strategy will include reflections on strategic dependencies of the European economy. A process similar to supply chain review started under the Biden Administration. This discussion will outline the multitude of issues that merit a transatlantic discussion and outline specific areas ripe for a closer cooperation. \nThe strategy also aims to unleash the potential of SMEs\, which are essential to Europe’s competitiveness and prosperity. SME’s will be supported by:\n●  encouraging innovation through new funding and digital innovation hubs as part of the sustainable and digital transitions\n●  cutting red tape by reducing barriers within the Single Market and opening up access to finance\n●  allowing better access to finance by setting up an SME Initial Public Offering Fund (with investments channeled through a new private-public fund) and the ESCALAR initiative (a mechanism to boost the size of venture capital funds and attract more private investment) \nOn all three fronts there will be opportunities for US and European investors to get involved. \nSPEAKERS:\n● Kerstin Jorna\, Director-General of the Directorate-General for Internal Market\, Industry\, Entrepreneurship and SMEs\n● Duncan Caird\, Managing Director\, Head Infrastructure\, Energy & Export Finance\, HSBC\n● Thomas Barrett\, Chairman\, OECD INFRASTRUCTURE FORUM\, and Senior Fellow Global Economy Development Program\, BROOKINGS INSTITUTION\n● Additional Panelist TBA \nTIME:\n10:00am EDT / 16:00 CET \nREGISTRATION FEE:\nEACCNY Members: Free\nEACCNY non-Members: Free \nREGISTER
